The hydrant network in Struga is more than half a century old, which is a serious problem. The Director of Water Supply and Sewerage, Dashmir Nasufi, says that almost all streets have two hydrants and their power is 4 bar. He admits that there is a need to replace them in some places where they do not function and that they are in the process of doing so.

Even in Ohrid, the hydrant network is decades old. The biggest problem is in the old part of the city.

"The hydrant network is in a catastrophic state. However, we are trying to at least put those hydrants that are still functional into operation, to make our work easier. The hydrant network has probably not been renovated and checked for 30 years, and now we are making efforts with the Water Supply Company to see what are the critical points where the hydrants should be functional," said Kosta Kuzmanoski - deputy commander of the Territorial Fire Department in Ohrid.

An additional problem is that, due to the narrow streets, the density of houses and irregularly parked cars, it is difficult to reach the building engulfed in fire.

A serious problem for both cities is the massive and often poorly planned urbanization, locations and roads with difficult access, the internal network of hydrants that does not function in residential buildings, as well as buildings without fire evacuation stairs. /Alsat/
