The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Ahmet Ismaili, held a constructive meeting with Hubert Perr, the newly appointed Head of Cooperation at the European Union Office in Kosovo, accompanied by his team.

During the meeting, Governor Ismaili expressed gratitude for the continued support of the European Union, appreciating the close cooperation that the CBK has with the European Central Bank (ECB) and with the relevant directorates of the European Commission.

He emphasized that this partnership plays a key role in advancing the CBK's reform agenda and in the development of Kosovo's financial sector.

Ismaili presented an overview of the current reforms and activities of the CBK, oriented towards approximation with European Union legislation and best practices.

He further informed Perr about the progress towards Kosovo's integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), emphasizing that this process will increase the efficiency of payment systems and compliance with European standards, despite legal challenges.

The Governor also emphasized the CBK's efforts in advancing legislation, supervisory reforms, strengthening financial and monetary sovereignty, as well as in the fight against euro counterfeiting.

He underlined the institution's active role within the EU Growth Plan, subject to parliamentary approval.

The meeting also included discussions on legislative developments, including the new Law on Banking, the need to review the Law on Payment Services, as well as the adoption of the updated Law on the Prevention of Money Laundering (AML).

The regulation and monitoring of crypto-assets, in line with European approaches, was also discussed.

Special attention was paid to cooperation through the TAIEX program, especially in strengthening technical expertise and supervisory capacities.

The parties assessed as important achievements the progress made last year in the fight against euro counterfeiting, through the creation of the legal and institutional basis within the framework of this program.

Governor Ismaili also informed about the CBK's activities related to the Green Card System, emphasizing the importance of finding a sustainable solution for international insurance coverage and cross-border mobility.

For his part, Hubert Perr welcomed the progress presented and reconfirmed the European Union's commitment to supporting Kosovo's institutional reforms, praising the CBK as a committed and reliable partner.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and further advancing Kosovo towards regulatory, supervisory and operational approximation with the European Union.
