CBK Governor meets Italian General, talks about strengthening the fight against counterfeiting

The Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK), Ahmet Ismaili, together with Deputy Governor Fusha and associates, received in a meeting the General of the Carabinieri Command against Monetary Counterfeiting, Gianluca Vitagliano, accompanied by Pier Luigi Ferri.
The meeting took place within the framework of the Pericles program and aimed to strengthen cooperation between the institutions of Kosovo and Italy in the field of the fight against counterfeiting.
During the meeting, Governor Ismaili briefed the Italian delegation on the mandate and responsibilities of the CBK, with an emphasis on activities related to the prevention of money laundering, the financing of terrorism and the fight against currency counterfeiting. He also spoke about ongoing projects, including the establishment of the National Anti-Counterfeiting Centre, which is being supported by the Central Bank of Croatia and the EU Office in Pristina through the TAIEX programme.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of deepening inter-institutional cooperation within the framework of a project funded by the European Commission, which aims to strengthen professional capacities for the identification and prevention of currency counterfeiting. The importance of addressing these challenges in the field of crypto-assets and digital instruments, which are developing rapidly at a global level, was also mentioned.
Governor Ismaili emphasized that the new legal framework will enable the creation of a specialized center within the CBK to combat currency counterfeiting, defining the roles and responsibilities of the relevant institutions.
In this context, CBK leaders also recalled the agreement signed in August 2025 with the European Central Bank (ECB), which strengthens the institutional commitment to preserving the integrity of euro banknotes and financial stability in Kosovo.
At the end of the meeting, Governor Ismaili thanked the Italian delegation for their support and cooperation, emphasizing that coordination with European partners is essential for protecting the currency and strengthening monetary security in the country.
