Former mayor of Himara sentenced to 2 years in prison for abuse of office

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime (SCOC) has found the former mayor of Himara, Jorgo Goro, guilty, sentencing him to 2 years and 20 days in prison on charges of abuse of office.

The sentence given by the Criminal Court of Kosovo was 3 years and 1 month in prison, but due to the summary trial it was reduced to 2 years and 20 days.

The court also ordered the confiscation of two properties involved in this case, with a total area of 10 square meters in the Dhërmi area, which will be transferred to the state.

Meanwhile, the apartment seized as part of the investigation will be returned to citizen Gentian Sula, according to the court's decision.

SPAK has accused Jorgo Goro and two former directors of the Himara Municipality, Jerasimo Bashi and Vasillaq Strakosha, of involvement in two cases of property alienation in Dhërmi:

1In the first case, the prosecution alleges that Goro and his subordinates submitted forged documents for a 5,500 square meter property to state institutions, enabling its registration from state property to private ownership.

In the second case, Goro and local Izh officials are alleged to have rezoned a 5,000-square-meter agricultural property, overlapping it with state-owned property, and then sold it to investors. A building permit was then issued for a tourist complex.
