The Simpsons series reportedly uncannily predicted a series of key events that occurred in 2025, cementing the show's decades-long reputation for its ability to see the future.

Matt Groening's show first aired in 1989 and over the past nearly 40 years has aired several hundred episodes and a total of 37 seasons, which continue to air.

Attention has turned to the ever-increasing number of accurate predictions related to the year 2025.

The Simpsons staff writers seem to have made a number of predictions that turned out to be true throughout the year, ranging from the "downfall" of Elon Musk to the unique chaos of Donald Trump's second presidency.

Elon Musk once had a huge impact on the public thanks to his leading role in several cult series such as The Big Bang Theory and Rick & Morty.

Among his appearances was one on The Simpsons a decade ago in 'The Musk Who Fell to Earth' that also seems to partly anticipate the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The episode's story seems to have strangely predicted the fall from power of the world's richest man - starting with his role in fortifying Springfield with a brand new power plant and electric cars, after befriending Homer Simpson.

But, just like in real life, Musk tells Burns that his plans have resulted in the loss of up to $50 million, leading the series character to implement massive DOGE-style job cuts.

These layoffs hit Homer's friends Karl and Lenny hard, leaving Musk deeply unpopular and leading Homer to end their relationship before boarding a SpaceX ship and leaving Springfield.

In real life this year, Musk joined Donald Trump's administration as the leader of DOGE, but later left, forcing him to step away from political life for a period of time.

The Simpsons series also reportedly "predicted" Trump's presidency in the 2000 episode "Bart to the Future," in which Lisa Simpson becomes president of the United States in a fictional year 2030.

Her presidency comes after what is widely understood to have been Trump's single term in office, during which he causes a budget crisis that the Simpsons' middle child inherits.

The Trump administration went through a budget crisis earlier this year, with the US government shut down for 43 days from mid-September to November 12 after Congress repeatedly failed to pass appropriations legislation for fiscal year 2026.

“The Simpsons” directly addressed the rise of Artificial Intelligence in 2025 in their episode “Keep Chalm and Gary On,” during which Bart uses ChatGPT to complete his homework.

But Al has featured heavily in the series before, with 2005's Treehouse of Horror episode 16, which aired in early November of that year, also using the concept in a surprisingly familiar way.

One of the stories in the anthology episode features 'AI Bartificial Intelligence', during which Bart falls into a coma and the Simpsons take home a robotic boy named David in his place.

David turns out to be a better boy than Bart and, when the real boy wakes up, he is bypassed, returning later to seek revenge.

One of the most important events of 2025 was the death of Pope Francis and the subsequent Conclave that elected the first American Pope, Pope Leo XV, Robert Prevost.

The series "The Simpsons" seemed to allude to an American Pope in one of its oldest episodes, "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace," which aired in September 1998.

In the episode, Springfield news anchor Kent Brockman reads a bulletin informing the public about a "fake Pope" who wears sneakers.

Chicago is also famous for sneakers, with the Air Jordan 1 "Chicago" launched there by Michael Jordan in 1985. /Telegraph/
