March 4 is the deadline for electing a new President, whose term ends on April 4; if this does not happen, the country will go to early elections. LDK and PDK are looking for a consensual name but with a political agreement, while the Vetevendosje Movement does not have a clear position on whether they support President Vjosa Osmani for another term and whether they aim for a political agreement with other parties for a name acceptable to all.

President Vjosa Osmani, who is seeking another 5-year term as head of state, will end her term on April 4.

The new president must be elected no later than March 4, no later than 30 days before the end of her term.

It is still not clear what stance the party that has 57 MPs in the new legislature, the Vetëvendosje Movement, has towards Osmani's candidacy.

Despite TV Dukagjini's interest in several MPs and even the party spokesperson, it remains unclear which of the parties they intend to cooperate with for the presidential nomination.

Immediately after the elections, Albin Kurti declared that they would have to talk to the opposition about the issue of the president, but that they would first have to sit down and talk to the current president.

Deputies from the Democratic League of Kosovo on the Debat Plus show on TV Dukagjini have shown no signs that they will support Osmani's candidacy, preferring another name, which they believe is more consensual and above political parties.

"We do not see it as something that obliges us to either stay in the hall or give her support, but we as MPs will fulfill our obligation by voting or by taking a political stance, normally as a political party at this moment it is important to mention that to the extent that we have responsibility, we must be responsible in terms of political agreements in terms of our responsibility that the citizens have given us, and our stance is that we have no obligation to support Vjosa Osmani, aware that during these five years she has not served the general interest", declared in Debat Plus, LDK MP Jehona Sadriu-Lushaku.

On the other hand, Bernard Nikaj, who is the secretary for foreign relations of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, which will have 22 deputies, declared on Thursday that the PDK will vote for a new and consensual president, only with a political agreement.

On the other hand, political analyst Belgzim Kamberi says that it is important to understand whether the Vetëvendosje Movement is willing to compromise with other parties, and to see how far the former opposition bloc is willing to go to defend their positions.

"Of course, in his position, Mr. Kurti has the opportunity to build a kind of threat, if we can call it that, towards the opposition to build a preliminary negotiating position for the president, and now this is also legitimate from a political perspective. The other issue is how the opposition will behave towards Mr. Kurti's stance, so will the opposition be afraid to go to the elections or will it show some kind of fear and in this regard accept Mr. Kurti's proposal for president without an agreement with the opposition...", said Kamberi.

According to the Constitution, in the first two rounds of voting for the President, 2/3 of the votes of the Assembly are needed, that is, 80 of them.

If the candidate fails to be elected in both rounds, in the third attempt he or she can be elected with 61 votes, but 80 deputies must be present for a quorum.
