The electoral campaign for the May 11 parliamentary elections in Albania officially begins today, opening a busy month of meetings, rallies and confrontations between parties vying for power.
The Democratic Party and the "Alliance for a Greater Albania" coalition are the first to open the campaign with a major rally at "Mother Teresa" Square, where the main stage is being built. The central figure of this campaign will be Chris Lacivita, an American political strategist who is expected to closely lead this race for the DP.
Meanwhile, unlike other times, the Socialist Party is holding meetings today in all 12 districts with women, a category that the Socialist Party considers the foundation of electoral support, but also an important part of representation in politics. The official campaign of the Socialist Party opens on April 12 at 12:00, as a symbol of the 12 stars of the European Union, a destination that the Socialists place at the center of their program with the slogan: "Albania 2030 in the EU".
Lulzim Basha will also launch his campaign on April 12, an hour before the Socialists, under the logo of the Euro-Atlantic coalition, seeking to maintain a profile independent of the Berisha faction.
In this race, each coalition has 186 candidates for MPs, according to the new electoral formula: 140 from the open list and 46 from the closed list.
Meanwhile, verbal clashes between leaders have begun in strong tones, with Prime Minister Rama mocking the Democrats' "American hope." Rama has expressed optimism for a fourth term, noting that the SP could win "even more than 77 MPs."
On the other hand, Berisha replied: "I am not a prophet, but you see the enthusiasm."
Under the heat of the electoral race in search of citizens' votes, political parties are focusing mainly on their economic programs.
With deep divisions in the opposition and an SP that seeks to consolidate power beyond 2025, the May 11 elections are expected to be among the most challenging in recent years, where not only the two main parties, but also new forces will seek to make history, reports A2 CNN. /Telegraph/
