The court has extended the detention of 4 suspects in the case of abuses at the Kosovo Insurance Bureau.

For the suspects, Sami Mazreku, Valon Berisha, Florent Sylejmani and Ylli Çollaku, the court assessed that there are still legal reasons for the continuation of detention, based on the risk of obstruction of criminal proceedings and other circumstances provided for by the Criminal Procedure Code, it extended their detention for another two months.

They are suspected of being involved in the misuse of 1 million euros by the BSK.

In addition to pre-trial detention, the court has also imposed alternative measures such as the obligation to regularly report to the police station and the prohibition to approach certain places or persons, in order to prevent influence on the judicial process.

In the ruling published on 06.02.2026, it is stated that these measures are necessary and proportionate to ensure the proper conduct of the criminal procedure, until the case reaches a judicial conclusion.

"The dissatisfied party has the right to appeal against this ruling within 48 hours, through this court, the Court of Appeals of Kosovo, in Pristina," the court ruling states.

On 09.1.2026, a hearing was held in the case of 39 people arrested on suspicion of 'extorting' over 1 million euros from the Kosovo Insurance Bureau (KSB) at the Prizren Court.

Detention was requested for four suspects, and for the others, the measure of reporting to the police station and not approaching the BKS facility.

Otherwise, information about misuse, thousands of euros circulating in the bank accounts of Kosovo citizens, as compensation for traffic accidents even in cases where there were no accidents at all, were the target of a several-month investigation conducted by the Basic Prosecution Office of Prizren yesterday, on 08.01.2026.

45 people identified as suspects, of whom 39 have been arrested and seven others are wanted - this is the balance of the action that was carried out on 08.01.2026 in several regions of Kosovo.

The BSK file will now continue to be processed, while the Prizren Prosecution Office has frozen the accounts of the suspects who allegedly received illegal compensation from BKS, which the Prosecution says was made possible by Mazreku and Berisha.

The total damage caused to the Insurance Bureau is considered to be over 1 million and 40 thousand euros./Kallxo.com
