The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MASHTI) has announced that due to recent rainfall and difficult conditions in some areas of the country, the start of the teaching process is postponed until January 12, 2026.

According to the official announcement, as a result of the floods and the aggravated situation in most municipalities, as well as the difficult traffic due to continuous rainfall, which according to the Hydrometeorological Institute of Kosovo is expected to continue in the coming days, a decision has been made to extend the winter break for two additional days at the national level, respectively on January 8 and 9.

"The second semester classes will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026," the MESTI announcement states.

The Ministry has announced that it is in constant communication with all Municipal Education Directorates and that, based on information received from the field, it has been determined that the start of the teaching process scheduled for Thursday is impossible.

It is also emphasized that the teaching hours lost during these two days will be replaced during the second half of the 2025/2026 school year for all levels of pre-university education.

MESTI has thanked parents, students and teachers for their understanding and cooperation, emphasizing that the safety of students and educational staff remains a top priority.

Kosovo has faced floods in recent years, which have mainly caused material damage.

It is estimated that damage to river beds, as a result of illegal gravel extraction, contributes greatly to the flooding of areas./Telegraph.
