GJKKO announces decision on Tirana incinerator, Lefter Koka and six officials sentenced

The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime announced this Wednesday the verdict in the criminal case related to the Tirana incinerator, sentencing former Minister of the Environment, Lefter Koka, to 2 years in prison.

Koka was found guilty of the criminal offense of abuse of office. His initial sentence of 3 years was reduced to 2 years due to the summary trial.

Koka has already been convicted in the Elbasan and Fier incinerator cases.


We recall that for the Fier incinerator, Lefter Koka was sentenced to 10 years in prison, reduced to 6.8 years with a shortened trial.

For the Elbasan incinerator, he was also sentenced to 10 years in prison, reduced to 6.8 years, also due to the summary trial.

In total, the former minister faces 15.6 years in prison for three criminal cases related to the incinerator affair.

Six other defendants in the case were also found guilty, while the seventh was acquitted.

Decisions for other defendants in the Tirana incinerator case:

Namik Simixhiu – 3 years in prison, reduced to 2 years with a shortened trial; termination of the arrest measure and ban on holding public office.
Valbona Ballgjini – 2 years in prison, with a shortened trial, the sentence is converted into probation for twice the remaining part of the sentence; 5 years ban from public functions.
Sidita Kopliku – 1 year and 6 months in prison, reduced to 1 year due to summary judgment; sentence converted to community service; 5-year ban from public office.
Fatjon Murati – 3 years in prison, reduced to 2 years with a summary trial; 5 years ban from public office.
Taulant Tushe – Sentenced to 3 years in prison with a shortened trial, the sentence is reduced to 2 years.
Bledar Karoli – Sentenced to 3 years in prison, 2 years with a shortened trial.
Jetmir Llapaj – He declares himself innocent.
