The contents of the letter Biden left for Trump in his office are made public

In one of his final acts in office, former US President Joe Biden participated in the presidential tradition of writing a letter to his successor, Donald Trump.

The tradition began with Ronald Reagan leaving a letter for his vice president George HW Bush in 1989, with Bush continuing the tradition four years later after losing the 1992 election to Bill Clinton.

Every president since then – including Trump in 2021 – has left a letter for their successor.

It is known that Trump found the handwritten letter on his desk on Monday while signing executive orders in the Oval Office, prompted by a reporter who asked him if he had received a message from Biden.

After finding the letter, Trump held it up for the cameras, showing a handwritten "47," for the 47th president.

He said he would read it before deciding whether to share what the letter said, he writes. the Independent, the Telegraph reports.

The short note, which Trump described as "inspiring" and "very nice," was later shared in full with Fox News.

"It was a bit of an inspirational letter. Enjoy it, do a good job. Important, very important. How important the work is," Trump told reporters.

Here's what the letter said:

Dear President Trump,

As I leave this sacred office, I wish you and your family every success in the next four years. The American people – and people around the world – look to this house for stability in the inevitable storms of history, and my prayer is that in the years ahead there will be prosperity, peace, and grace for our nation.

May God bless and guide you as He has blessed and guided our beloved country since its founding.
