A canal in a suburb of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, turned red, alarming local residents.
Photos and videos show the intensely colored water flowing into the estuary, the Rio de la Plata, which borders an ecological reserve.
Local media reports suggest the color may have been caused by a spill of textile dye or chemical waste from a nearby warehouse, writes the BBC.
The Environment Ministry said in a statement that water samples were taken from the Sarandí canal to determine the cause of the color change.
According to the AFP news agency, by late afternoon, the color of the water had somewhat lost its intensity.
Residents claim that many local companies dump toxic waste into this watercourse, which runs through an area with leather and textile processing industries, about 10 km from the center of the capital. /Telegraph/
