The skeletal remains of a man thought to have died 15 years ago have been discovered in his home in Spain.

Firefighters were called by an elderly neighbor after floodwater from Storm Alice began flowing into an apartment below.

And when they got there, emergency services found part of his skeleton in the bedroom and other bones in the living room - said to have been transported there by pigeons that had begun building nests in the dilapidated property.

Stunned locals who live in the apartment block in Valencia said the last time they saw the man - said to be a retired builder called Antonio - was in 2010.

The father of two had been living alone in the upstairs apartment after separating from his wife and did not speak to his two adult sons, according to local reports.

The body was exhumed and sent to the Valencia Institute of Forensic Medicine.

As it is further stated, forensic experts were seen leaving the house with white bags, which contained his remains.

The neighbors were under the impression that the father had gone to live in a nursing home.

His utility bills and community fees were up to date because they were debited directly from his bank - where his pension was still paid.

And regular payments meant there was no reason for concern about his whereabouts. /Telegraph/
