Historical: USA with new food pyramid - grains now at the bottom, proteins at the top

US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently unveiled a new version of food pyramid American, attacking "traditional" nutrition guidelines.
He called the change "the most significant revitalization of federal food policy in history."
"As secretary of Health and Human Services, my message is clear: Eat real food," Kennedy said.
In the old pyramid, the basis of the diet was grains - bread, rice and pasta - while fats and meat were at the top and limited, reports usatoday.
Now, RFK Jr.'s new pyramid "overturns" this hierarchy: high-protein foods, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables are now the most recommended part of the diet, while refined grains and processed foods are placed at the lowest base.
What has changed mainly?
Healthy proteins and fats such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy are promoted as a key part of the diet.
Grains and refined carbohydrates are now recommended in lower amounts.
Sugar and highly processed foods should be avoided as much as possible.
Experts are divided: some welcome this "more natural" approach and focus on whole foods, while others worry that red meat and saturated fats may contradict decades of traditional health guidelines.
The new food pyramid is expected to influence federal guidelines for schools, nutrition programs and health advice for American citizens, marking a major shift in the concept of the daily diet. /Telegraph/
