The American Embassy speaks about the institutional blockade of the Parliament

The United States Embassy in Kosovo has reacted to the impossibility of constituting the ninth legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo, calling for respect for the Constitution and political responsibility.

In a statement to the media, a spokesperson for this embassy said that it is the obligation of the political leadership to form new institutions in accordance with the country's constitutional order.

“It is up to the people of Kosovo to determine who should represent them. Kosovo is a sovereign, democratic and independent country,”

"It is the responsibility of the political leadership to form a stable Assembly and government in accordance with the Constitution," the statement said.

The statement comes at a time when the Kosovo Assembly has failed to be constituted eight times in a row.

The Vetëvendosje Movement's candidate for Speaker of the Parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, failed to receive a majority of votes for the sixth time, even in the session held on April 29.

Vetëvendosje continues to insist on its candidacy, while opposition parties refuse to support it and demand a consensual name – a stance similar to what Albin Kurti once held when he blocked the candidacies of the PAN coalition.

Meanwhile, on April 30, the acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo and also the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, sent an official letter to the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, inviting him to a consultative meeting with the aim of constituting the new Parliament.

In the letter, Kurti emphasizes the need to elect the presidency of the Assembly, including its speaker, based on the Constitution of Kosovo and the relevant regulation.

He invites Abdixhiku to attend a meeting with representatives of the three main parties, which will also be attended by Memli Krasniqi, chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK).

The meeting is scheduled to be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 08:30, in room N-204 of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. /Telegrafi/
