Turks make a radical decision: A foreign referee will referee the biggest derby Galatasaray-Fenerbahce

Turkish Football Federation President Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu announced that a foreign referee will officiate the Galatasaray-Fenerbahce derby to be played on Monday.

Following Haciosmanoglu's statement, the Romanian press announced the name of the referee of the big derby as 40-year-old Romanian, Istvan Kovacs.

This referee is known for his authority and this is shown by the fact that he will referee today's (Wednesday) match between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the Champions League.

Turkish media revealed that Slovenian Slavko Vinciq was also a candidate for referee, but Galatasaray informed the Turkish Football Federation that they did not want him to be delegated as the main referee, so the choice fell on Kovacs.

Haciosmanoglu explained that the decision was made in the interest of the clubs to avoid the controversies and pressures to which local referees are exposed, and Kovacs is among the best referees in the world.

We recall that Galatasaray is first with six points more than Fenerbahce and it seems clear that this derby could be a turning point in the fight for the championship title. /Telegraph/
