Spanish tourist got out of car in South Africa and headed towards elephants - giant animals crushed him to death

A Spanish tourist has been crushed to death by elephants in a national park in South Africa after repeatedly trying to photograph them.

The 43-year-old died on Sunday morning in the Pilanesberg National Park, about 210 kilometers northwest of Johannesburg, Telegraph reports.

According to national park officials, the man was with three friends, with whom he got out of the car and approached the herd of elephants to photograph them.

"Despite other passengers warning him of the danger, he unfortunately did not listen to them," said the park.

Pieter Nel told Agence France-Presse, said that the herd of elephants were "irritated" by the presence of the man who kept getting closer to them.

"It is normal for elephants to try to protect their young. "Many tourists are considered a danger and have no idea how dangerous these animals can be when the little ones are around them," he added. /Telegraph/
