The IMC hosted the EU Election Observation Mission in a meeting, they discussed the Regulation that defines the obligations of the media

The Independent Media Commission (IMC) hosted a meeting with a team of European Union experts as part of the 2025 Election Observation Mission.

This team, consisting of Agnes Doka, Eirini Skouzou and Constantin Marza, was received by the Chairman of the IMC, Jeton Mehmeti.

Mehmeti said that this meeting is a continuation of the cooperation between the IMC and the Election Observation Mission and that the IMC is willing to continue further until the end of the mandate of this mission.

According to the press release, he briefed the EU team on the IMC's preparations for media monitoring during the election campaign process for the 2025 national elections.

"Regarding the recommendations of the report on the past elections, the IMC has addressed all recommendations, moreover, the legal framework has been advanced, where Regulation IMC-2024/03 on the obligations of the media during the election campaign has been approved.

"This regulation, which derives from the Law on General Elections, defines the obligations of the media regarding the coverage of the election campaign in a fair, balanced and equal manner for all political entities," he said.

It was also stated that within the framework of the general preparations for the electoral process, the IMC has approved the Action Plan for monitoring the media during the general elections.

"The action plan is divided into three parts that include activities planned before the start of the election campaign, during the election campaign and after the election campaign. The period before the election campaign includes the activities of the IMC in drafting the regulation on media conduct during the campaign and election silence, as an obligation foreseen in the Law on General Elections adopted in 2023.

This period also includes activities related to communication and awareness-raising of IMC licensees with the aim of informing them about the obligations of the media during this process. In implementation of this plan, the IMC has informed licensees about the changes in the Law on Elections and the obligations of the media during this electoral process. The information campaign has included announcements made through the official IMC website, through official email communication and in regional meetings with IMC licensees, where meetings were held in Prishtina, Prizren, Gjilan, Peja and Mitrovica, the announcement states.

Meanwhile, referring to the IMC's press release, the Election Observation Mission said that they are in Kosovo to assess the current situation and monitor the work surrounding the elections to be held in February 2025. /Telegraph/
