Jonathan Lachman, the former head of special projects at OpenAI, recently left to join a new Artificial Intelligence research lab founded by former company executive Mira Murati.

It's the highest-profile hire Murat has made since leaving OpenAI in September of last year to start the much-talked-about venture, which is focused on exploring so-called Artificial General Intelligence.

It is known that so far Murati has hired about 10 researchers and engineers, including employees from OpenAI, Character AI, and Google DeepMind.

But her startup is still in the early stages – it doesn't even have a name.

Although Murati has not yet stated anything, an OpenAl spokesperson has confirmed Lachman's departure, they write. foreign media, the Telegraph reports.

Otherwise, Murati left OpenAI less than a year after CEO Sam Altman was unexpectedly dismissed from the company's board of directors at the end of 2023.

In the ensuing turmoil, the board briefly appointed Murat, who then served as the company's chief technology officer, as interim CEO.

When Murat left the company 10 months later, she thanked Altman in her farewell letter.

“There is never an ideal time to leave a place,” she wrote in the note to OpenAI employees.

She added that she was "leaving because she wanted to create the time and space to do her own exploration."

A month later, it was reported that Mira was trying to raise over $100 million to fund a mysterious new company. /Telegraph/
