European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has said that a €90 billion loan for Ukraine for 2026-2027 will be signed during a special session of the European Parliament on February 24, marking the anniversary of Russia's full occupation of Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters in Vilnius, where he was on a visit to mark the Day of the Restoration of the Statehood of Lithuania, Metsola noted that the European Parliament had approved the new 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine last Wednesday and that it would be officially signed at the special session.

She added that this step would reaffirm the European Union's commitment to Ukraine and maintain momentum on Ukraine's path towards European Union membership.

Metsola also stated that many people had underestimated Ukraine and Europe, and that anyone who believed that the war would weaken them was wrong.

She stressed that Europe was taking responsibility for its security by mobilizing 800 million euros for defense, while European NATO member states intended to spend five percent of their GDP on defense. /Telegraph/
