Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe (CoE) should not be conditional upon sending the Association's draft statute to the Constitutional Court.
This is what the deputy of the PDK, Rashit Qalaj, has stated, and he has commented on the demands of France, Germany and the United States of America, that concrete steps be taken regarding the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority for KiE.
"These developments, at least as I see them, are not at all favorable for Kosovo. The conditioning of Kosovo with the Association continues, with the sending of the draft statute to the Constitutional Court. I think that is too much to ask. Since the question of membership in the Council of Europe should not be related, the draft statute of the Association should not be related. However, not knowing what the Government of Kosovo and Kurti have accepted and these things are happening to us", said Qalaj, on RTV Dukagjini.
Although, according to him, conditioning should not be done, Qalaj has said that the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, should fulfill the promises he made to the internationals.
"We do not know what Mr. Kurti is in the meetings he had with the representatives of France, Germany, but also with other countries. I think that any conditionality is too much for Kosovo, since we have suffered a lot and have met the demands of the internationals, for every institution that we have shown interest in being a part of. And the question of membership in the Council of Europe, if it does not happen, will be a great loss for Kosovo. It will be a big failure for the Government, but if it happens again, it will be a loss for us as citizens of Kosovo".
"The Government of Kosovo must take steps now, I don't know if it has committed to sending the statute to the Constitutional Court. And I don't know what promises Kurti gave", added Qalaj.
Furthermore, Qalaj criticized the Government and Kurti for having to draft a draft statute of the Association and "not waiting for them to receive it ready". /Dukagjin/
