-37 degrees Celsius temperatures strand thousands of tourists in Finland

Thousands of tourists have been stranded in northern Finland after flights at Kittila Airport were cancelled due to extreme cold.
According to foreign media, temperatures at the airport dropped to -37C on Sunday morning, after several days of similar arctic weather, making it difficult to de-ice aircraft and other operations.
Kittila is located in Finnish Lapland in the sparsely populated north of the country.
Despite being accustomed to cold winter temperatures, Finns have been hit by this year's cold snap, which is more severe than in other years and has affected large regions of northern, central and eastern Europe.
Heavy snowfall, strong winds and icy roads have made travel dangerous across the continent.
Meanwhile in Germany, train passengers were experiencing delays and cancellations on Sunday after heavy snowfall led to the closure of all services by rail operator Deutsche Bahn in the north of the country.
Authorities announced that due to low temperatures, all schools will remain closed and switch to online learning on Monday in North Rhine-Westphalia, the country's most populous western state.
Meanwhile in the Baltic countries of Estonia and Lithuania, drivers were asked to postpone all non-essential travel due to expected storms, while neighboring Latvia issued a snow alert for the west of the country. /Telegrafi/
