The founder of Telegram spoke for the first time about his arrest

Telegram founder Pavel Durov thanked everyone for their support and said he was surprised that he, as the CEO of the platform, was accused of third-party crimes.

Durov believes that in such a case it would be right to file charges against Telegram and not him personally.

"The French authorities had many ways to contact me and ask for help. I was a frequent visitor to the French consulate in Dubai as a French citizen,” he wrote.

The Russian-French also admitted that the increase in users to 950 million had affected the quality of moderation.

"I have set myself the goal of significantly improving the situation in this regard. We have already started this process within the country and I will share the details of our progress very soon", declared the 39-year-old.

Otherwise, Durov was arrested weeks ago at the Paris airport. French justice accuses him of not acting against the spread of criminal content on Telegram, a social network that has more than 900 million users.

Durov was arrested as part of an investigation against an unidentified person launched on July 8 by the Cyber Crimes Unit, prosecutor Laura Bekua said earlier in a statement.

The investigation concerns suspected involvement in various criminal offences, including running an online platform that enables illegal transactions, child pornography, drug trafficking and fraud, as well as refusing to provide information to authorities, money laundering and providing cryptographic services for criminals, the statement said. /Telegraph/
