The Central Election Commission (CEC) has reacted after the interruption of the vote counting process in Mitrovica, announcing that a technical error was found in the printing of one of the ballot elements, specifically in the polling station code.

In a press release, the CEC announced that the error was identified in some of the ballot packs, according to information received from the Municipal Election Commissions in Gjakova and South Mitrovica.

According to the clarification, the company responsible for printing the ballots has accepted the possibility that the defect occurred in the mechanical printer that stamps the variable data, while it has pledged to submit an official clarification regarding this case in the coming days.

The CEC emphasizes that the total number of printed ballots has been accurately recorded, and for each polling station the serial numbers fully match those verified at the Municipal Counting Centers in South Mitrovica and Gjakova.

The CEC says the technical error does not affect the integrity of the vote.

"The Central Election Commission assures the public, voters and all stakeholders involved in the electoral process that this technical error does not in any way affect the integrity of the voting process or vote counting, as the ballots contain numerous security elements that guarantee that they cannot be falsified or copied," the CEC further explains. /Telegrafi/
