Sudan, a country in northeastern Africa, has been added to the list of countries that have recognized Kosovo's independence.
This was announced on Saturday by the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani. In a statement on X, Osmani said that Kosovo and Sudan have agreed to establish diplomatic relations.
"This is the beginning of a great partnership," Osmani wrote.
And such a decision by the African state has been welcomed by the country's leaders.
Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that our state gained a new recognition, and our people gained more friendship.
The wise man said that "we hope that the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries will expand and strengthen further."
"Congratulations to the citizens of our Republic and thank you to the President of Sudan for this important decision for the relationship between our two countries, as well as to our President for her commitment and to our friends and partners for their continued support," Kurti wrote.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Donika Gërvalla, also welcomed Sudan's decision to recognize Kosovo. In a Facebook post, she expressed her gratitude to Sudan and President Vjosa Osmani for her work.
"This recognition comes just a few weeks after the good news from Kenya, further strengthening the international presence and subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo in Africa and beyond. We are deeply grateful to Sudan for this decision, to President Osmani for her work, as well as to all our allies who contributed to this joint diplomatic success," said Gërvalla.
There were also positive reactions from opposition parties in the country.
The Secretary General of the PDK, Vlora Çitaku, said that the recognition by Sudan constitutes another step towards strengthening Kosovo's international subjectivity.
"Increasing the number of recognitions is vital for consolidating Kosovo's position on the global stage, and this process becomes easier when we work together with our international friends and partners," said Çitaku.
Former Foreign Minister and former PDK MP, Enver Hoxhaj, has also reacted to the news of Sudan's recognition of the Republic of Kosovo, describing this as an extraordinary development in the international arena.
The Democratic League of Kosovo has also welcomed the decision of the state of Sudan to recognize the independence of the Republic of Kosovo.
LDK, through a statement, says that this important act is powerful evidence of the continued commitment of peace-loving states to the principles of freedom, peace and the right of the people of Kosovo to independence.
"LDK expresses its sincere gratitude to the leaders and people of Sudan for this decision, which strengthens Kosovo's international subjectivity and opens new paths for the development of interstate relations," the LDK statement said.
The Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, also welcomed the recognition of Kosovo's independence by the Republic of Sudan.
Haradinaj, through a post on Facebook, said that recognition by the state of Sudan is welcome.
"For Kosovo, progress in the recognition of its sovereignty is crucial. In this case, the Presidency was at the forefront of the task of strengthening Kosovo's international subjectivity. This step must continue at a rapid pace. Congratulations, Kosovo!" Haradinaj wrote.
Former president and AKR leader Behgjet Pacolli also congratulated President Vjosa Osmani on Sudan's recognition of Kosovo.
"As we warned, the recognition from Kenya, as one of the most powerful states on the African continent, encourages a wave of recognition for our country. The recognition from Sudan is fantastic news. Congratulations Kosovo! I also congratulate President Osmani for the work she is doing in Antalya. Congratulations Kosovo!", said Pacolli.
Sudan's recognition is the second in a matter of weeks for Kosovo, after another African country, Kenya, recognized it in late March. Sudan has now become the 119th country to recognize Kosovo. /Telegraph/
