Storm chaos in Spain and Portugal, floods cause 'strange earthquakes' and inundate cities

A powerful storm has caused chaos in Spain and Portugal, flooding cities, closing highways and paralyzing air and rail transport.
At least one person has died in southeastern Portugal after being swept away by strong currents, while thousands of residents have been evacuated from endangered areas.

In Andalusia, torrential rains and winds of up to 100 km/h have caused landslides and damage to historic buildings, including the iconic Giralda tower in Seville.
Unusual seismic tremors were also reported in the province of Malaga, which local authorities link to underground water movements after intense rainfall.

The situation has caused chaos in Madrid, where the highway near Barajas airport was closed and flooding was also reported at metro stations.

In Cadiz and Setubal, dramatic images show streets transformed into rivers and residents rescued by emergency vehicles.

Hundreds of soldiers have been deployed to help, while schools and railway lines have been closed in some regions.

Authorities warn that extreme weather is expected to continue, bringing back fears of the devastating floods of recent years. /Telegraph/
