A major winter storm has brought heavy snowfall and dangerous ice to parts of the northeastern United States, and is expected to bring the heaviest snowfall to New York in almost four years.
New York State has declared a state of emergency due to the heavy snowfall, which has created icy, unpaved roads and reduced visibility, making travel very dangerous.
The snowfall began Friday night and continued into Saturday. About 18 centimeters of snow is expected to fall in the city, the most in almost four years. Mayor Eric Adams called it a "significant snow event."
