On Tuesday evening, a fire broke out on a postal bus in Kerzers, in the canton of Fribourg, leaving six people dead.

Eyewitnesses report that a person set himself on fire, while video and photos show the vehicle burning intensely.


According to police, at least six people have died in this tragedy. Five other people were injured, reports 20min.ch, transmits albinfo.ch.

At a press conference on Tuesday evening, police confirmed that the fire on the postal bus was deliberately set. However, the exact circumstances are still under investigation. Police did not comment on whether it was a terrorist attack.

A video obtained by this editorial shows the scene shortly after the fire broke out. A person is seen running and screaming, with what appears to be burns on his hands. Screams of pain can be heard in the background.

Media 20 Minuten has decided not to publish the video and instead only show a few screenshots from it.

In the video, the injured man is heard saying in Albanian:

"A man set himself on fire. He poured gasoline on himself and then lit it."

The man then sits down on the ground. A passerby approaches him and asks if he needs water. The injured man says yes.

So far, at least six people have lost their lives, while some of the injured were transported by helicopter to the hospital.

According to police, the fire was quickly brought under control.

There are indications that a single person may have started the fire, but the exact manner in which it happened is still unclear. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing and are expected to last throughout the night. Police have also opened a hotline for information: 0800 261 700.
