Shala, Januzi and Bahtijari pleaded guilty and were sentenced, Haradinaj: The people decide - heroes or failures?

The Kosovo Specialist Chambers based in The Hague have found Haxhi Shala, Sabit Januzi and Ismet Bahtijari guilty of obstruction of justice, accepting the plea agreement reached between the defendants and the Specialist Prosecution Office.

Shala was sentenced to three years in prison, while Bahtijari and Januzi were sentenced to two years each. The court announced that the time spent in pre-trial detention would be counted towards the sentence.

In this regard, the former vice president of the KLA War Veterans Organization, Nasim Haradinaj, reacted on Debat Plus.

Haradinaj criticized the plea agreement, saying it harms the process in the Thaçi et al case and strengthens the position of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office.

Haradinaj said that it will be up to the public to decide whether the convicts will be perceived as heroes or failures.

According to him, the agreement did not bring any major benefits to the defendants, except that it may have reduced the sentence by about a year.

"So the moment you agree to make a deal with the prosecution, it means you regret what you did and ask for forgiveness. So in a way, you get a mitigating measure, regardless of how the other party is burdened."

They have accepted a deal, and it always ends with one party winning and the other party (Thaci and others) being harmed. In this case, the prosecution has emerged victorious.

We will see how the prosecution will wait and what it will use. And what was the prosecution's intention. What if nothing has been done, it has done harm because the prosecution has justified itself by saying we had reason to hold the court in The Hague and not to hold it in Kosovo. It has been the opposite of what we have witnessed. Let's see how the people are treating them, are they treating them as heroes or as failures. It is a matter for our people. I think this is an unnecessary weakening, when they have not benefited from any sense. They have benefited from a maximum of one year", said Haradinaj on Debat Plus. /Dukagjin/
