Shala: The collapse of the B2 unit in KEK is endangering energy security and increasing prices

Former Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Ferat Shala has reacted to the collapse of the B2 unit at the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), emphasizing that this has led to the removal of over 250 MWh of electricity from the system without any warning.
In a public reaction, Shala assessed that the collapse of the unit is not a random event, but a consequence of poor maintenance, inefficient management, and a lack of institutional responsibility.
"Today, on January 18, 2026, the B2 unit at KEK went down and over 250 MWh of electricity was removed from the system without any warning. This is no longer a random event, but a consequence of poor maintenance, poor management and lack of institutional responsibility," Shala wrote.
According to him, unplanned outages of energy units create a crisis in the market, increase prices and give traders room to dictate conditions, while citizens bear the consequences.
"Institutions are silent, investments are not yielding results, and energy security is weakening," Shala stressed, warning that without serious reforms and accountability, energy crises will continue.
He adds that if concrete measures are not taken, electricity prices for consumers will inevitably increase.
