A serious incident has shocked Turkey, after the former president of the Alemdag Spor team, Tuncay Meriç, 49, was shot dead on Wednesday evening in a bar-restaurant in the Çekmeköy area, on the outskirts of Istanbul.

Security camera footage clearly shows the moment of the attack, when the perpetrator calmly approaches the victim, pulls out a gun and shoots him in the head without warning. The incident happened within seconds, causing panic among the restaurant's customers, while the perpetrator immediately left the scene.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the arrest of the suspected perpetrator, a 17-year-old man, who was caught in Edirne near the Greek border while trying to flee the country. A 64-year-old man who had sheltered the suspect and tried to help him reach his destination was also arrested.

An eyewitness to the event described with shock the moment of the murder:

"I was sitting with friends. I got up to go to the bathroom and noticed that there was no argument going on. Suddenly, a young man raised his gun and shot the man next to him in the head. Everyone started running, I lay on the ground," he said.

The attack has shocked those present in the bar, who initially hide under the tables and then leave in panic. /Euronews.al/
