Suspected espionage cases in Kosovo in the last year have been a concern for the national security of the Republic. Since June 2024, seven people have been arrested on suspicion of espionage for Serbian intelligence services.

More than half of them are Kosovo Albanians. Some of them are accused of having collected and sent information and documents to the Serbian BIA regarding the Kosovo Liberation Army, its superiors and members, and other security institutions.

Such acts of collaboration and espionage with the Serbian BIA are being considered extremely dangerous for the country's national security.

As an expert on security issues, Arben Dashevci says that the damage that can be caused by these individuals is great.

"In terms of security, they have influenced the calming of citizens and all residents and the calming of national security, considering what damage these people can cause, knowingly or unknowingly, considering that espionage is a form of criminality that is extremely serious, complex and very difficult to detect, therefore major facts are also needed," he told RTK.

Another security expert, Avni Islami, also emphasizes that the number of those collaborating with Serbia is large, which is why he believes in more arrests.

"Suspects have been arrested and some have been convicted, these are considered dangerous and when considering that a significant number, about 7-8 people, have been arrested and will be tried and some have been tried, I consider that the number of informants, collaborators or even Serbian agents is many times greater," he said.

Muharrem Qerimi, Bedri Shabani, Aleksandër Vllajić, Bojan Jevtić, Hysri Selimi, Jelena Djukanović and Fatmir Sheholli, have been arrested and convicted on suspicion of the criminal offense of espionage.
