The acting Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Xhelal Sveçla, reacted today after the incident that occurred during the high school graduation demonstration in North Mitrovica, explaining that the activity had been announced and organized in accordance with the law, but that some participants misused this festive event for provocative and political purposes.

In a post on the social network Facebook, Sveçla emphasized that all citizens of Kosovo enjoy the right to organize and demonstrate in public spaces, including activities of a festive nature, such as the graduation parade of the North Mitrovica municipality.

He announced that the demonstration had been notified in advance to law enforcement agencies and therefore the Kosovo Police had taken all necessary measures for its smooth conduct.

"After the announcement, the Kosovo Police has taken all steps to ensure the full progress of this manifestation," said Sveçla, reports Telegrafi.

However, according to Sveçle, during the event, some participants attempted to provoke with nationalist symbols and chauvinist slogans, including the slogan “Kosovo is the heart of Serbia” and the use of the three-finger symbol – a gesture that in the context of Kosovo commemorates painful periods of history, including the ethnic cleansing and genocide committed by the Serbian regime during the war.

Sweden condemned these actions, describing them as acts that undermine the spirit of coexistence and attempt to destabilize the security situation in the country.

"Such symbols and slogans not only commemorate the ethnic cleansing and genocide that Serbia committed in Kosovo, but also manifest the claims that this state has against our Republic," he stressed.

In this context, Sveçla praised the professional response of the Kosovo Police, which intervened in time to avoid escalating the situation and maintain public order and security.

"The Kosovo Police has professionally taken the necessary actions in order to avoid further escalation," the minister declared.

He recalled that Kosovo, as a democratic state, guarantees all civil rights, but will not allow these values to be used to incite tensions and promote ideologies that stem from, as he said, "Vučić's autocratic and pro-Russian regime."

At the conclusion of his statement, Sveçla addressed the citizens of Kosovo with a call for prudence and not falling into similar provocations, warning of the efforts of official Belgrade and individuals like Milan Radoićić, who, according to him, aim to escalate and destabilize the situation in Kosovo.

"I call on all citizens without distinction not to fall for similar provocations, and I appeal not to be instrumentalized by official Belgrade and the criminal mastermind Radoić who want to escalate and destabilize the situation in Kosovo," concluded Minister Svečla.

Otherwise, the Kosovo Police, through an official announcement made public by the Police Station in North Mitrovica, has denied several reports in the media and social networks, which presented an activity held in the city as a "protest" or "escalation of the situation". According to the police authorities, this information is incorrect and does not reflect the reality on the ground.

In its statement, the Police clarified that the activity that has raised concerns and misunderstandings among the public was not at all protesting or destabilizing in nature.

The police say that it was simply a traditional parade of high school graduates from the Municipality of North Mitrovica, a festive event that is organized every year on the occasion of the completion of high school. This activity, as noted in the announcement, was previously announced by the students themselves to the Kosovo Police, which had taken all measures for its smooth running and safety.

"The Kosovo Police ensured the smooth running and care of this activity, which ended peacefully and without any problems," the announcement states, reports Telegrafi.

During this festive parade, several minor provocations were reported, but, according to the police, the quick and measured response of the police units prevented the situation from getting out of control.

According to the Police, with their intervention, any possibility of escalation was prevented and the party continued without further problems.

"During the graduation celebration, several provocations occurred and, in order to avoid any escalation, the Police reacted. The situation has calmed down and the graduates continued their celebration without the need for additional reaction," the statement further states. /Telegraph/
