Serbian authorities lock employees inside government buildings – preventing them from participating in general strike

The door of the Government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina has been locked with handcuffs so that employees cannot come out to the nationwide protests.

Students, civil society organizations, activists, and opposition parties have called for a general strike in Serbia today.

This building in the center of Novi Sad has several entrances and exits, all of which are closed, writes nova.rs.

"They have also closed the doors in the corridors. You can't go through the first and second floors, those from the first floor go to the toilet on the third floor. Employees who were on annual leave have been given directives to come to work," several employees said on condition of anonymity.

They added that for several days there have been a large number of "strange and unknown men" in the building who restrict the movement of employees, prohibit photography, and said that their colleagues are informing them that a "similar atmosphere" exists in the City Hall Building, which is the seat of local government.

They indicated that for several days there have been several "new security guys" in the City Hall Building.

"Every person who enters the City Hall leaves their passport, says where they are going, why and how long they will stay. They get a document that someone at the City Hall signs, thus confirming that they have been there. When a person is suspicious, they escort them to the office, wait for them to do whatever they want and escort them out," they said.
