American professor Daniel Serwer has stated that he would like to see more international pressure on Serbia, so that it stops exploiting the situation in northern Kosovo for harmful purposes.

However, he emphasizes that such pressure is unlikely to bring about major changes.

According to Serwer, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has chosen not to be the leader who will normalize relations with an independent Kosovo, much less recognize its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"This will require another president in Belgrade," he told Kallxo.

Speaking about Kosovo, Serwer believes that the European Union should increase pressure on the country to focus on integrating the Serbian community and treating them equally.

"I don't know many Kosovar Albanians who don't understand how important this is, but putting it into practice is much harder than saying it," he declared.

Regarding global geopolitical changes, Serwer says that Kosovo and Serbia are currently very low on the list of priorities of the US and the EU.

"If any progress is going to be made, it will take people in Belgrade and Pristina who want it," he stressed.
