Serbia's false allegations of organ trafficking at the military hospital in Monopolc, Shtime, have shocked former KLA soldiers who served at the hospital.
But those who have also served as fighters and nurses say they were not surprised by these plans that Serbia intended to push forward through those accused of espionage at the BIA, Bedri Shabani and Muharrem Qerimi.
"I am completely innocent."
Time and the Court will prove Bedri Shabani's innocence.
It will take time for us to reach this truth. How well-founded the prosecution's accusations are remains to be seen, but 55 pages of indictment, how interesting and disturbing they are.
Maps that allegedly link the former military hospital here in Monopolc with organ trafficking and the Kosovo Liberation Army. But these are not the only details that have come to light. The indictment of the Special Prosecution against Bedri Shabani accused of espionage has brought to light new details. According to the published indictment, Bedri Shabani is accused of having provided information to BIA officials about the names, identities, and histories of nurses, doctors, and anesthesiologists who had served in the KLA military hospital here in the village of Mollopolc in Shtime.
Force and necessity are the best teachers, and they often bring about unusual ideas and adaptations.
Bashkim Hiseni, a nurse by profession, was among the people who helped turn these houses into a military hospital.
"An improvised house with very skilled doctors... who have done... even with kitchen spoons...", said Hiseni.
The union had the most dangerous job, and faced death every day.
"I served as a field nurse...", Hiseni added.
The fabricated false narrative of organ trafficking has shocked the war nurse.
"It's a terrible feeling, we've been waiting for it...", emphasizes the former KLA soldier.
In addition to living witnesses, at the main hospital in Ferizaj, there is evidence of an undeniable truth.
"The basic anesthesia machine, but it only served to provide oxygen, and this is a device that KLA soldiers who were in the field, mechanically received oxygen, and the laryngoscope or a device for intubating patients. These are some of the basic devices used by doctors at the military hospital in Mollopolc who provided assistance to former KLA soldiers but also to civilians who also performed birth control checks in that place."
These devices were held in the hands of war doctor Nehat Baftiu for several months.
The anesthesiologist who joined the fight for the ideal of freedom has something to say about that time.
Wounded, bleeding, mutilated, unconscious, unconditional, without anything, just for the ideal of freedom.
"After being equipped with an operating room with beds and equipment,... we worked in difficult conditions while we were in service," said Baftiu.
So the situation was this. On the operating bed lay the wounded man, whose condition the doctor didn't know, but the circumstances didn't require any questioning.
"The Ferizaj hospital lacked a laboratory, and basic conditions were lacking, everything went smoothly... We worked hard, we had dozens... except for those who are in line at the hospital, they are alive and well," Baftiu added.
Even Baftiu is shocked by the plans to tarnish this part of history.
"This is ridiculous, we didn't even do kidney transplants at UCCK, we didn't have teams...", the former war doctor emphasized.
The post-war period brought all kinds of people through the UNMIK mission in Kosovo.
And sometimes when you understand an allegation against you, events and conversations often connect, and this happened to anesthesiologist Nehat Baftiu when he heard about Bedri Shabani's alleged plans for organ trafficking.
"After the war, we regularly had foreign experts who accompanied us to the operating room and had every piece of information...", added Baftiu.
The wheel of history also turned on the war nurse's head. Except he didn't have experience with any UNMIK member, but with an American colonel.
"We sent you a message... from today's perspective, the article is professional," Hiseni said.
Colonel and doctor Edwin Moore certainly had no bad intentions, and this is proven in the article provided by TV Dukagjini.
The American colonel describes the hospital as it was in reality: with improvised conditions, in ordinary household facilities.
"Basic surgical equipment was not available, so doctors were forced to seek out available items for modification. To improvise a surgical light, a theater stage lamp was modified to meet their needs," the research says in part.
The American also talks about the lack of equipment supply, recounting the lack of a generator, sterilization equipment, surgical lights, and what not.
He titled the writing "The Cave of Healing Wounds."
He was talking about a place a few kilometers away. Where the wounded, staff, and KLA soldiers were forced to go on May 5, 1999.
The offensive of the Serbian forces devoured everything in front of them.
"After a while, we stayed with our wounded and we decided to enter the Topilla cave. We spent 3-4 nights there...", said Bashkim Hiseni.
Even the weather had become an opponent for the side that was much weaker, but had an ideal.
Bashkim Hiseni is among the people who have served this mission most nobly.
"From this part we can stop and see the entrance to the cave. If I remember correctly, the wounded man was an old man, who, along with many residents, helped carry the wounded," said Hiseni, a former KLA soldier.
Nurses, doctors, the wounded, soldiers with weapons, wounded and homeless civilians, all headed towards the mountain gorge. Surrounded, with nothing, at the mercy of God. Fragments of a story that becomes purer every time it is repeated and told. Not that there is anything to add, but that is how it escapes taint.
May 7, 1999 in the cave where we spent the first night, it was a really cold night despite the fact that it was May. At the entrance to the cave they lit a fire and we gathered around it… “Life conquers death”, a war diary by Bashkim Hiseni, a nurse and former KLA soldier who told us in the car on the way. March 17, 2024, Bedri Shabani, already accused by the Special Prosecution for espionage, writes a letter, an email, to the Chief Prosecutor of the Special Prosecution, Kimberly West, and tells her not to stop investigating his claims about, allegedly, organ transplantation at the military hospital in Mollopolc, Shtime, and not only. So there are two realities, the reality of false claims, and the reality behind me. Up there is a cave in which former KLA soldiers found refuge. So in a cave, where 60-70 or more wounded people found shelter for several days, without food, without light, without heating, without water, without anything, this was the reality of a hospital that someone had a plan to defile, reports RTV Duakgjini.
