"Safe City" fines will officially begin on February 1st

The registration of traffic violations through the "Safe City" system will begin operating from February 1, a month later than the previously announced date of January 1.
The news was confirmed to TV 21 by the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Interior, Muhamet Ismaili, who announced that in addition to Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, this system will also be operational in Corridors 8 and 10. According to reports from the competent institutions, this extension of the deadline is due to the need for other technical controls and harmonization of legal procedures.
"From 01.02.2026, the SafeCity system will be fully operational in Skopje, Kumanovo and Tetovo, as well as Corridors 10 and 8, while in other cities it is expected to start within 2026," said Muhamet Ismaili.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced that the possibility of some tolerance regarding speed is being considered.
"So, we must respect the speed limits, 50 km/h for urban areas means 50 km/h for urban areas. Of course, we will also be careful, just like all European cities where they have added their own specific parameters, so that there is tolerance, this tolerance will also occur in our country," declared Sasho Topalovski.
The "Safe City" system will operate with fixed cameras that will record traffic violations, such as speeding, running red lights, and unregistered vehicles, and will be supplemented with specialized police vehicles that will detect illegal parking and other violations. The goal of this system is to reduce and halve the number of traffic accidents by 2030. /tv21
