Renowned artist Sabrina Carpenter will participate in a major film project, as foreign media reports.

The American singer is returning to her roots as an actress, with plans to star in and produce a musical film inspired by the story "Alice in Wonderland."

The project, still untitled, is being developed by Universal Pictures and will be written and directed by American director Lorene Scafaria, according to several sources.

It is not yet known what role the American singer will play in the film adaptation or when filming will begin.

If the project goes ahead, it will be the studio's first major film starring Carpenter.

The 26-year-old is said to have pitched ideas for the film to Universal Studios last year.

Scafaria, who will be both a screenwriter and director, is best known for the 2019 film Hustlers, starring Jennifer Lopez, which tells the story of a group of strippers in New York.

Most recently, Carpenter has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Album of the Year award for her seventh album, "Man's Best Friend."
