Russia and Ukraine must reach an agreement or the US will 'leave' – says Vice President JD Vance

US Vice President JD Vance warned on Wednesday, April 23, that Moscow and Kiev must reach an agreement or Washington will end its efforts to reach a ceasefire.

"We have issued a very clear proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it is time for them to either say yes, or the United States to walk away from this process," Vance told reporters in India, where he is on a four-day visit, according to the Telegraph.

Vance spoke as envoys from Washington, Kiev and European countries gathered for talks in London amid a new U.S. effort to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

"Now is the time, I think, to take, if not the final step, one of the final steps,..." Vance added.

"Now, of course, this means that the Ukrainians and the Russians will both have to give up some of the territory they currently own," he added.

US President Donald Trump promised during the campaign that he would reach an agreement between Moscow and Kiev within 24 hours, but has since failed to secure concessions from President Vladimir Putin.

Trump proposed an unconditional ceasefire in March, the principle of which was accepted by Kiev but rejected by Putin.

The White House welcomed a separate agreement by both sides to halt attacks on energy infrastructure for 30 days, but the Kremlin has said it considers the moratorium to have expired.Telegraph/
