Russia admits guilt? Investigation suggests Azerbaijan Airlines plane in Kazakhstan was shot down by Russian Pantsir-S1 missile system

Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 was shot down on December 25 by a missile from a Pantsir-S1 system brought from Syria to Russia, killing 38 and injuring 29, sources reveal.

Electronic warfare systems were deployed against the Azerbaijani plane on December 25 as it approached to land in Grozny, leading to serious malfunctions in its control systems before it crashed near Aktau airport in Kazakhstan, it reported. AnewZ based on his sources.

While Russian investigators have identified both the individual who launched the missile and the officer in charge who gave the order.


Diplomatic sources in Azerbaijan said that Baku refuses to allow the issue to be "silenced" and remains steadfast in its demand for accountability from Russia.

This includes taking the case to international courts if Moscow refuses to take responsibility for the tragedy in which 38 passengers died and 29 survived with injuries.

'Apologize, admit guilt, punish the guilty'

A day after the crash, Azerbaijani government sources said a Russian surface-to-air missile caused the plane to crash, writes € news, the Telegraph reports.

According to sources, the plane was not allowed to land at any Russian airport despite the pilots' requests for an emergency landing and was ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan.

Also, the plane's GPS navigation systems were jammed throughout the flight over the sea.

Three days after the crash, in a speech to the nation, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said: "We can say with complete clarity that the plane was shot down by Russia. We are not saying it was done intentionally, but it was done."

At the time, on December 29, Aliyev said that Baku made three demands to Russia regarding the downing.

"First, the Russian side must apologize to Azerbaijan. Second, it must admit its guilt. Third, punish the guilty and pay compensation to the state of Azerbaijan, the injured passengers and crew members," Aliyev concluded.

Aliyev noted that the first request had been "already fulfilled" when Russian President Vladimir Putin apologized to him on December 28.

Putin called the crash a "tragic incident," although he did not accept Moscow's responsibility.

On the same day, the Kazakh government said it decided to send flight recorders to Brazil to help fully and clearly uncover the facts surrounding the tragedy. /Telegraph/
