US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered a speech today at the Munich Security Conference, which was followed by applause from those present in the hall.

He stated that US President Donald Trump demands "seriousness and reciprocity from our friends in Europe."

"The reason, my friends, is because we care deeply. We care deeply about your future and ours," Rubio said.

The top American diplomat emphasized that, even when disagreements arise, they stem from a deep concern for Europe, not just from an economic or military perspective.

"We are connected spiritually and culturally. We want Europe to be strong. We believe that Europe must survive... our fate will always be linked to yours," he added.

Rubio underlined that the fate of Europe has a direct impact on US national security, which is also the main focus of this conference.

He also warned that his country aims to "revitalize an old friendship and renew the greatest civilization in the history of mankind."

The US Secretary of State stressed the importance of strengthening the US-Europe alliance "even though our home is in the Western Hemisphere... we will always be a child of Europe. Our first colonies were founded by English colonists, to whom we owe not only the language we speak, but our entire political and legal system."

Otherwise, the world's largest Security Conference will continue its work today and tomorrow. /Telegraph/
