Ronaldo says Man City will be 'afraid' of Real Madrid after Champions League prediction

Cristiano Ronaldo has said Manchester City will be 'afraid' of Real Madrid, after making a bold prediction about the Champions League.

The Champions League play-off draw took place on Friday after the league stage concluded on Wednesday.

Man City and Real Madrid reached the play-offs after missing out on automatic qualification. And now they will play against each other in the highlight match of this round.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards last month, Ronaldo was asked about Man City's form in the Champions League as well as Real's chances of lifting more European trophies.

He backed Pep Guardiola's side to overcome their relegation and advised his old team to win the Champions League this season.

The 39-year-old also claimed that 'all' teams are 'afraid' of facing Real at the Bernabeu.

"Well, in football you never know what's going to happen," he explained. "Teams have moments, difficult times, good times and what City are going through at the moment is a difficult time, but I'm sure, 100 per cent, that they will come back."

"It's like Madrid, people don't expect them to have been so great at the start, but they're not too bad, they're there, two points ahead of Barcelona and they say it's a bad season, I don't understand why they say these things."

"Every player, every team has a moment of rush, but they will come back all the time. And Madrid, if you have to bet on winning the Champions League again, I would bet on Real Madrid because you never know what will happen."

"At the Bernabeu it's different, all teams are scared when they play there, that's a fact, history says that and never consider Madrid dead because they always come back, City too," Ronaldo added.

Man City and Real both lost three games in the league stage of the competition. The Premier League club took 11 points from their eight matches, while the Spanish giants had 15.

They will meet in February over two matches to determine who will earn a place in the round of 1. /Telegraph/
