Rexha was not drowned by the horse, but by his aunt!?

On the wedding day, Rexha is drowned by a horse. This is the story known through the "Song of Rexha". But the rhapsody Demir Krasniqi offers another version of this story.

"According to reliable historical sources, this event happened a few years before the Albanian League of Prizren, near Medvegja, where Rexha, an orphan, was killed by his uncle for inheritance purposes", said Krasniqi, quoting the confession of Qamili i Vogël.

According to him, Rexha's father died at the age of two. As it used to happen, Rexha's mother had agreed to marry her brother-in-law, to be near her son. Axha - now Rexha's stepfather - took care of the grandson until he was of marriageable age; engaged her and made a big wedding for her. But, at some point it occurred to him that Rexha will be separated from him after the marriage, and in this way also the property. Therefore, on the day of the wedding, he had deceived Rexha, sending her to the stables of the horses, supposedly to feed them, where he secretly killed her and blamed the horses.

Demir Krasniqi says that this story was told by Rexha's mother, after her second husband (Rexha's aunt) had died. The song was brought to Gjakovë by Qamili i Vogël, who sang it for the first time on Radio Prishtina. Since then, the song has spread to all Albanian lands, being reworked by other artists. /21Media/Telegraph/
