Renault breaks records in 2016 - sells 3.2 million cars in the global market, in Kosovo with 80% increase

Renault has recorded year-on-year growth of 374,000 new units, selling 3.18 million vehicles in 2016 alone. Renault is now the leading French brand in the world, while in the same period Dacia and Renault volumes grew by 38.8 percent. The Renault brand is the second in Europe, and in 2017, Renault has increased its ambitions with a new product line, new launches and international development.

World sales records

Driven by the Renault – Drive Change plan, sales are up for the fourth consecutive year, making Groupe Renault the number one French brand worldwide, with 3,182,625 vehicles registered in 2016.


Groupe Renault passenger car and light commercial vehicle sales grew by 13.3% in 2016 worldwide, compared to 4.6% for the market as a whole. The group's share of the world automotive market stands at 3.5%. Both brands, Renault and Dacia have registered a sales record. Renault maintains its position as the leading French brand in the world. Renault Samsung Motors sales increased by 38.8%.
The group continued to benefit from favorable conditions in the European automotive market (up 7% in 2015), with registrations up 11.8% to 1,805,290, for a market share of 10.6%.

Outside of Europe, Groupe Renault achieved record sales in 2016, up 15.3% on 2015 against growth of 5.2% in the market as a whole. Volumes and market share increased in all regions.

Renault with exceptional growth in the Kosovo market

The representative of Renault, Dacia and Nissan for Kosovo, AutoMITA, has said that a similar trend of extraordinary growth within the group has also existed in the Kosovar market. According to Zgim Mita, executive director at AutoMITA, it is said that the growth of Renault in our market has been drastic, because the growth has been marked up to the extent of 79% from the same period last year.

"The demand for all Renault models in Kosovo during 2016 has been exceptional and has exceeded our expectations. The increase in demand for Renault's main cars has gone up to the extent of nearly 80 percent, respectively an increase of 79% has been recorded. But the growth of the Renault brand and products for the Kosovar market is not unexpected, because this is the fourth year in a row that we as a market have doubled the sales and demands for Renault cars. And with this growth trend, of course we are also being noticed and appreciated by the Renault group, as we are bringing the newest Renault, Nissan and Dacia cars to our market almost in real time, with the most favorable prices and options for a new car" said Zgjim Mita, the executive director of AutoMita, which is the official representative of Renault Group cars for Kosovo and Albania.

RENAULT the second company in Europe

In Europe, GROUPE Renault's market share (passenger cars and light commercial vehicles) increased by 0.5 points to 10.6%. Registrations increased by 11.8% to 1,805,290. Sales increased in all countries of the region.

Sales were up again for the Renault brand, which becomes the second largest automobile brand in Europe. With 1,390,280 vehicle registrations (up 12.1% in 2015), Renault's market share increased by 0.4 points in 2015 to reach 8.1%.

In the passenger car market, the company's market share increased more than any other brand in Europe, by 0.4 points. This is mainly due to the successful renewal program of the product range including Espace, Talisman and Megane. The New Scenic got off to a good start, with more than 19.000 requests in its first quarter on the market.

Renault has also maintained its leadership in city cars, B-segment, due to the successful performance of the dominant duo Clio and Captur.

In the European light commercial vehicle market, sales of the Renault brand increased 9.9% to reach 296,187 vehicles and a market share of 14.8%.

After eleven years on the European market, sales of the Dacia brand were again on the rise in 2016 (by 10.8%), to a record of 415,010 registrations.
The Renault brand leads the European electric vehicle market, with sales up 11% to 25,648 units (excluding Twizy). ZOE leads the passenger range electric car with 21,735 registrations (up 16%).

In France, Groupe Renault achieved its best sales performance in five years. Renault extended its lead as the leading car brand in France, with 22.3% of the passenger car and light commercial vehicle market, while Dacia sales hit a record high of 112.000 units, ranking the brand fourth for the sale of private vehicles.

OUTLOOK FOR 2017

In 2017, the global market is expected to grow by 1.5% to 2% compared to 2016. The European market is also expected to grow by 2%, with a 2% increase for France as well.

Internationally, the Brazilian and Russian markets are expected to become stable. China will grow by 5% and India by 8%.
