Real Madrid will bring in a replacement for Kroos or Modric, worth 60 million euros

Real Madrid have stepped up their efforts to sign Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, putting into question a transfer that Arsenal considered "practically complete".

According to reports from Spanish newspaper AS, the Madrid giants are seriously interested in the 26-year-old defensive midfielder, who has a buyout clause of 60 million euros.

Arsenal were reportedly ready to activate this clause, but could now be left empty-handed.

Real Madrid are looking for Zubimendi because they are looking for a midfielder who is good on the ball, but also in defensive duties. The club's directors also want to "Spanishize" the team after recently losing several key Spanish players such as Marco Asensio, Joselu and Nacho.

Zubimendi, born on February 2, 1999 in San Sebastián, currently has 226 appearances for Real Sociedad, scoring ten goals.

This season he has played 38 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering two assists.

In addition to Arsenal and Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in Zubimendi.

Zubimendi could be a long-term replacement for Luka Modric or Toni Kroos in the Kings' midfield, with the transfer expected during the summer transfer window in 2025. /Telegraph/
