In continuation of its biodiversity surveillance work, the Regional Administration of Protected Areas has placed a series of camera traps in the territory of the Kukës municipality.

According to the director of ADZM, Lefter Gjane, the installation of these devices aims to provide a more accurate observation of the wild fauna that lives within the boundaries of protected areas.

"We constantly monitor wildlife, based on monitoring protocols. We have identified a rare species this year, which is the wild turkey; this species is not often encountered. The wild goat has also been added to the list."", said Gjane.

Through camera traps, the presence of several species of wild animals has been detected, which are usually difficult to record during regular field patrols.

"We have monitored the camera traps and have identified wild boar, bear, wolf - wild animals that have only been identified this year."", He said.

Following the monitoring project, in January it is expected that camera traps will be placed on other trails in protected areas, thus expanding the surveillance map./RTSH
