The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, welcomed at the Capital Chamber the Kosovar karate fighter Islam Selmani, who was declared world runner-up at the World Karate Championship being held in Cairo.

Rama expressed himself as "super proud" of the athlete's historic achievement, congratulating him on his success and dignified representation of Kosovo in the international arena.

Islam Selmani won the silver medal in the up to 60 kilogram category, after facing Turkish Eray Samdan, one of the most successful karatekas in the world, in the grand final.

After a tough duel, Selmani came in second, scoring a result that will go down in the history of Kosovar sports.

Days earlier, he had secured qualification for the final after a convincing 9:1 victory over Uzbek athlete Mekhriddin Turakhonov.

With this achievement, Selmani becomes the first karateka from Kosovo to win a silver medal at a World Championship, raising the country's name and proving the extraordinary potential of young athletes.

President Rama emphasized that such young people are making Kosovo proud every day. /Telegraph/
