Albania today marked another step forward on its journey towards the European Union, opening four more chapters.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, held a press conference in Brussels.

The head of government said that 'for the first time in history, our country chooses for itself who it will marry,' reports Tch.

"I have a lot of gratitude with which I want to say a few words, starting with thanking you for ensuring that the promise is kept that, when results are delivered, we are rewarded. Today we opened another group chapter, which is 5 in 11 months. We look forward to opening the last group chapter within the year, with the hope that we will do it together. This is not about receiving a reward once and for all. We know that there are challenges, but we also know that there is no other way.

This is the first time in our history that we have the freedom to choose who we want to marry. This is an empire that we want to be a part of — an empire of values, of security. I don't want to go into it too much, because I'm very aware that Denmark has a lot to do. I mean, it was something that we were very happy about when we saw the barometer that Marta mentioned and when we realized that the Danish people are among the most supportive people. We need to spread this throughout Europe so that they don't block our way. Between us and the Vikings, it's a daunting undertaking.

"We now have a minister and a minister dedicated to the Environment. This is once again the result of pressure from EU channels, certainly friendly pressure. We have entered and I know that we will rely on the knowledge of Europe," said Rama.
