The Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has announced that work has resumed on "George Bush" Square today.
He has published footage from the works, saying that the Heritage Inspectorate has stopped the works in complete violation of the law, therefore the project will be realized.
"Works on "George Bush" Square are continuing today! The project will be realized! Yesterday, work was stopped on a part of the road, in complete violation of the law and based on INVALID documents. Therefore, the Municipality of Pristina will take all legal actions to oppose all illegal decisions of the Ministry of Culture and its subordinate institutions," his post states.
Otherwise, the works for the transformation of the "George Bush" square in Pristina have become a point of conflict between local and central institutions. The Municipality of Pristina had started the works months ago, describing them as part of an urban transformation. However, the works were interrupted by the Inspectorate of Cultural Heritage.
After a few days, the municipality resumed the works, but they were interrupted again on Tuesday. The disagreement is related to the lack of approval for the project, which, according to the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments (IKMM), endangers the integrity of surrounding monuments due to the planned construction of new structures. /Telegraph/
