Closeness to Vučić, Bajraktari: Rama is endangering Albania's dignity

Activist and representative of the Albanian-American community, Harry Bajraktari, has harshly criticized Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama for his relations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, following their joint editorial in the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, in which they call for Albania's membership in the EU in phases without the right of veto.
Bajraktari considers this an "absurd" step and emphasizes that Albania should not be politically linked to Serbia, a country that still does not recognize Kosovo and threatens the stability of the Western Balkans.
"Albania must move towards the European Union as a dignified and independent state, not tied to Serbia - a country that still does not recognize Kosovo and continues to threaten the security of the entire Western Balkans."
He recalls that Albania's historical relations with Serbia, during the time of Enver Hoxha and Fatos Nano, have not benefited Albanians and have had negative consequences for Kosovo and Albanians in the region.
"Albania owes nothing to Serbia. Edi Rama has no reason to go hand in hand with Vučić in Brussels. On the contrary, our history warns us of the danger of rapprochement with Belgrade."
According to Bajraktari, Albania's priority should be improving the rule of law, fighting corruption, respecting democracy and independent institutions.
"Integration into the European Union is not achieved through vague 'Rama-Vučić' regional projects, but through serious reforms within the country," he emphasizes.Telegrafi/
